Suspension update

I fitted Knoi adjustable shock to the car but can’t remember how long they have been on there so it was time to fit some new ones. I managed to find them on Amazon and the rear ones were in stock so i bought a pair of those and the fronts are on back order so I’m waiting for these to become available. I fitted the rears today and I’m leaving them as the default setting to see how the ride is and then i will adjust from there if needed as I’m not sure what the current ones are…

Fitting Mesh Filters to Alpha Throttle Body Poly Trumpets

Thought i would post this in case anyone else is looking for a way to fit Fitting Mesh Filters to Alpha Throttle Bodies that have the Poly Trumpets when there is not enough to fit a full filter box. I have the Alpha throttle bodies with the poly trumpets                 and don’t have the space to fit a full box air filter and i have been scratching my head as to how to fit some mesh filters and came up with this cunning plan 🙂 I bought some Webcon Mesh Filters to suit…

Lockdown 3 – Snagging list

As i have a bit of time on my hands and it looks like Boris will be giving me until at least March off! I thought it was a good time to work through me snagging list! So i will update this post as i work through them. JOB 1 As it was a nice sunny dry day today and i didn’t have much else on i decided to fit the spare heater box. I had already cleaned it up ready to go and was just waiting for a bit of decent weather. The box is now all fitted and…

We’re back on the road!!

Finally, after a long few months of getting the exhaust all sorted out, we are finally on the road. It was a beautiful sunny morning on the south coast, so it was time for a few last tweaks and checks and then it was time to head of for a shakedown. Everything ran fine, the temp was good, oil pressure reading ok and the steering was fine, the exhaust didn’t seem to knock, so all good :-). The brakes need a bit of bedding in and adjusting but that was expected. Time to check over and tighten up anything that…

A Series Custom Manifold

After a trial fit, the manifold needed a couple of tweaks to get it just right. So it was back off to the welders for the adjustment and also i gave up on fitting a bracket so i could separate the two sections as it was just too tight to fit in properly and i wasn’t too sure if it would work loose, so i had it welded together. So here is the full A Series Custom Manifold all ready for the final fitting and then it’s just a couple of other bits to sort out and we will be…

Final piece of the Opel Jigsaw!!

Today i picked up the final piece of the Opel Jigsaw and its looking bloody good 🙂 Harvey the welder has done an amazing job welding up my mockup and it fits perfectly!! Now just a bit of cleaning up around the inlets and i think i might sand a few of the welds and give it a good polish and i can then get it fitted to the car. It looks like with a little bit of adjusting to the lower part that it will all match up perfectly. I should have done this a long time ago!  …

Custom Manifold

Today i started making up the new manifold. STEP 1 COMPLETED I have the outer outlets all mocked up and tacked together and on Tuesday i will start on the middle pipes. Then it will be off to the welders to have it all fully welded up properly!   STEP 2 COMPLETED Now i just need to add the collector and set it up so it meets the lower part, then its off to the welders.   And its back!

Steering

Simplified steering setup

Now im making my own manifold and have streamlined the system setup i am able to simplify the steering and lose some of the UJ’s and support. So the setup will now be (working from the rack up) a Borgeson dampening UJ to replace the original flat rubber damper, then up to a Borgeson standard UJ, then i have used a Borgeson joiner to extend the standard steering column shaft so it brings the position of the UJ further down allowing the space i need for the manifold and as i have ditched the idea to run a 4 into…

Custom Manifold

The two big issues i have always had are: Trying to get a decent manifold for the right had drive is almost impossible! When you do try to use anything bigger than the standard down pipes you get lots of problems getting it past the steering coloumn. Over the years i have tried loads of different options for exhausts (a couple you will see in other posts) and i have looked at all sorts of steering option (again, quite a few versions in older posts) so after trying lots of options that are made for the left-hand drive cars and…

Exhaust

It’s not the prettiest thing i have ever done!

As the title suggest, this is not pretty but hopefully will get me to a point where i finally have a system and steering setup that works and that I’m happy with. Its very rough as my welding is shit and I’m not very patient with making exhausts, not something i could do for a living! But hopefully it will let me test out the fit and give it a bit of a shakedown and check that the clearance is all ok so i can then hopefully find a decent company to make me a pr oper one that does…
