Gates power grip clamps - fitted to Opel Manta A Series

Power grip clamps.

I had some custom silicon hoses made for me by JS performance, but the top hose was just a little big when fitted to the radiator outlet and would leak. And that was when it was cold so i was worried that it would be worse when under pressure. So the search for a solution began.. Could i get silicon tape and wrap the outlet to increase the size? An idea but not a great one, then one day i came across these “Gates Power Grip Clamps” all the blurb said that they would seal a hose connection better than…

Progress update

A little progress update on the old opel! I now have a nice new fully mappable ECU that any dealer can map, so that should make life easier, and the loom has been adjusted to work with the new ECU, so i have lost a few bits from the old setup as the air temp sensor is not needed. The ECU is all plumbed in under the dash and i have a new trigger disc to go with it. The loom as all in and i just need to set the tappet clearance for the engine to be ready. So…

Getting ready for the start up!

So its finally got to the point where i am getting ready for the big day!! The fuel system works, im just finishing the crank sensor install, which will mean i can then start to add oil to the engine and then water. I also need to finish the coil mounting bracket and and fit the ECU and then a good check over things to make sure they are all secured and tight and we will be ready for a test start! As Christmas is not far off now i think its going to be the new year before im…

Fuel system testing

Finally got round to giving the fuel system a test! and apart from a small leak from one of the fuel filter banjos (i think its missing a sealing washer) it worked like a charm 😉 much quieter than the old low pressure pump and runs back on the return fine! i just need to sort the breather pipes back up to the filler neck now and fit that washer and we are done. #happydays

Exhaust front section parts

Yesterday a nice little box of exhaust parts arrived for the front section of the exhaust. One of those being the flange to fit the manifold that i had to have cut as the US seem to use there own offset for the holes that i couldn’t find. The front pipe had been bent to clear everything nicely and i have added a small flexi section to help to add a little flex to the front pipe. I managed to get it all tacked in place today and all i need to do tomorrow is add oxygen sensor and its…

Opel Manta A Series Steering

The new steering double UJ and joiner has been sent on its way from Summit Racing today 🙂 and although it cost $38 dollars to send i expect it will still take about 2 weeks! So while im waiting its off to the grinding company to get the steering shaft ground down to take the new DD steering joint. It will then work something like this (pictures to follow when i get to putting it together!) From the steering column i will have a joiner to extend the shaft, then a nice big vibration single UJ, through a steering shast…

The Exhaust is coming together :-)

Right so i should do a bit of an update on the exhaust progress. The back box, over axel pipe and middle box are all in and looking good.           So the back section is all in and fitting nicely. Now for the front section. The pipes are back from the pipe benders and have now been cut ready to fit.           Im splitting the front pipe and using a small 4″ flexible section to try and help with movement and ease of removal. Im just waiting for the flanges and the…
