Now the suspension is all in and bolted up its time to put on the hubs with the new big brakes! I have used Volvo vented ones as they were the same offset and i was able to get them re-drilled to fit on the 4 stud hubs.

Continue readingWhat a bugger to fit the new uprated torq tube doughnut 🙂 (from Opel GT Source) Finaly got it in without too much swearing! now centre bearing fitted as well. So thats the back suspension in, the torq tube and the front suspension all in and all i need to do now is clean up a few bolts and then i can get the hubs on and ready for the new super big discs 🙂 Then i think i will crack on and get some of the break pipes done at the back ready for the ones through the car…

Continue readingI manage to get all the wheels into the smart car and down to the local tyre place to have the tyres taken off ready to send the wheels of the Rhino alloys for the refurb. Getting the wheels and tyres home was fun as there isnt much room in a smart car on the best of days 🙂
Continue readingMy favourite pastime of welding has finally come to an end 🙂 and i have finished the body work and can now get on with putting the front suspension back in and get on with the build properly.
Continue readingFinally i pick the repair sections up on monday so this will be the last bit of welding on the car 🙂 i will be so glad when its done! then the real fun can start. Front suspension back in, and engine and all the nice bits like fuel lines and brake pipes. I have another engine now so it looks like that’s the one going into the car if i get it finished and i will be selling the 2.1. As the other engine is slightly newer and i have a better head to go on this one with…
Continue readingThe old OZ alloys are looking a little bit worse for ware after being sat around for years in the garage, so they will be off for a bit of a refurb in the next week or two. Finding someone to do a good job has been hard as they are very hard to get replacements for so i don’t just old wheel repair place getting there hands on them. So after a bit off a google and a fe phone calls i found Rhino Alloys http://www.rhinoalloys.co.uk they know there stuff and have state of the art Diamond cutting tools…
Continue readingFinally the petrol tank is all painted up and fitted to the car. Now i can start on getting the fuel lines in and connected up and the brake lines.
Continue readingFinaly all the back suspension has been fitted and is just waiting to be torqued up. But i need to have the car on the gound to do the final torque settings, so its onto all the little bits of welding on the front end and then the chassis rail front sections. The boot floor has the hole in it for the tank, which has been painted and just needs to draw now before fitting it. Then when the front suspension is back in i can lower the car and start on the brakes and fuel lines. Just finishing the…
Continue readingFinally got the tank back from having the collar welded into it and its looking good. The fuel pump with internal swirl pot will sit inside this collar and allow me to run the fuel lines through the car into the boot and straight into the tank which means no messing about with pumps into swirl pots and surge problems as the new pump has the lot built into it. I will still use the original sender so that i get a correct fuel reading. All i need now it to cut the hole in the boot floor so the pump…
