One thing on my list of jobs i wanted to do at some point was replace the fuel sender as mine has never seemed to be that accurate and im sure it was reading lower than the actual level. Also where i had swapped to the fuel injection i needed to block up the fuel outlet on the sender as that is all part of the fuel pump for the injection.
Firstly, where do you find a new A Series fuel sender and even harder one that is setup for injection with no fuel outlet!
Well, i never seemed to be able to find one before, but as i had the tank out to do the pump i thought i would try searching again. Still no luck but after finding an article on line that seemed to suggest a B Series one might fit i did some more searching. Initially they seemed to be a different size or setup to the A Series but then i came across this link where the sender looked very similar – https://oldtimer-ersatzteile24.de/Fuel-sender-for-Opel-Manta-B-Ascona-B
Ok, so the float arm was a it different but the size and setp seemed very similar. I dropped the Oldtimer team an email with the size and hole offset of mine and they confirmed that it was the same, so i took a chance and ordered it.
When it arrived i tried it in the tank and although the float arm was at the wrong angle and too long it fitted the hole perfectly and was exactly the same setup.
So with a bit of bending and fiddling with the flat arm i got the new one the same length and setp as the old one.
See the pics below for the differences and the fitting.
