When i started the proper restoration and upgrade of the A Series, there were not too many options for aftermarket in-tank pumps for the full fuel injection and as I didn’t want to go the whole swirl pot in the boot option, I opted for an all-in-one pump and swirl pot from a Punto, which worked great but was made for a much deeper tanks than the A Series and was quite a bulky plastic unit and as the pump was too tall I ended up having a flange welded to the tank and cutting a hole in the boot floor with the unit sticking up inside.

This was not the slickest modification, but did the job and has run perfectly since installing it, but has always been one of those things that bugged me and I knew one day I wanted to sort it out so it wasn’t sticking up through the floor.

So a couple of months ago, after a bit of measuring I decided to order the Holley In-Tank RetroFit Fuel Module from Summit Racing. These things are not cheap but really well-made and have a very low profile and my calculations worked out that if i cut the flange back so it was flat with the top of the tank i could fit the Holley unit in and still have enough clearance to fit the tank back in if I used the tank spacer pads that Holey supply and this would mean it would all fint nicely under the floor and I could then weld the hole back up.

Although it was expensive with the tax and duty, I’m glad i got it then am sure its all getting more expensive with the old Trump tariff wars!

The only slight issue I had was that the Holey setup was for a smaller hole in the tank than mine and although the top flange easily cover the hole the ingenious way of securing the pump in with little flip out lugs would not work as they didn’t stick out far enough to reach beyond the hole.

BUT lukily JM Auto engineering in Portsmouth said they could make the lugs exactly the same but 10mm longer, problem solved!

This is the tank all setup ready for the module.

Pump fully installed and now its time to fit the tank, connect up the pump and give it a test!
